VoIP Gateways Mean Smoother Transition for Turk Telecom

March 21, 2017

One of the greatest things about Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) gateways is the almost universal benefit these bestow on those companies looking to move from time division multiplexer (TDM) systems to VoIP. Recently, a new example of that power emerged as TelcoBridges (News - Alert) brought VoIP gateway systems to Turk Telecom, giving it a leg up in its own move.

TelcoBridges is well-known in the field for making VoIP gateways, as well as session border controllers. So when Turk Telecom needed exactly these devices to make the jump from TDM to VoIP, that was where it turned.

Using TelcoBridges' Tmedia gateway line, the company could better set up needed gateways to create a kind of backbone link among the various system elements involved, connecting these all together while still working with the Signaling System 7 (SS7) architecture that comprised much of Turk Telecom's original legacy network infrastructure. Since the Tmedia system could comfortably accommodate both M2UA and M3UA protocols, that allowed for better transport of SS7 traffic over the IP network, as well as better backhaul of the SS7 traffic to one key point on the network.

TelcoBridges' CEO Gaetan Campeau (News - Alert) offered further explanation, saying, “Solution providers that are seeking access to incumbent service providers need a flexible media gateway that can address the technical challenges of complex SS7 deployments around the globe. This latest deployment further illustrates Tmedia's prowess in facilitating TDM to VoIP interconnections in the most flexible and cost effective manner possible.”

Naturally, TelcoBridges isn't the only such place to find these gateways. A variety of competitors are in play on this front, particularly beroNet, whose lineup of gateways comes in analog, Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN), and Global Systems for Mobile Communications (GSM) signaling. Able to work with any Internet private branch exchange (IP PBX (News - Alert)) system and install quickly into current systems, the beroNet line is a formidable match in the market.

Though in the end, the key point is to advance systems forward. Whether its beroNet, TelcoBridges, or anyone else doing the job, bringing systems out of the legacy darkness to work in the sun of VoIP service improves overall customer experience and makes users more likely to stick with one provider going forward. That's valuable enough a reason to consider using VoIP gateways, which help provide the necessary connections and backbone to help such moves go forward.
